Welcome to 101 Hotel in Reykjavik the capital of Iceland
101 Hotel in a high class hotel in Reykjavik the capital of Iceland. The hotel is a modern and hip hotel in Reykjavik the capital of Iceland. The hotel set in a former office block on a busy corner of downtown Reykjavik, next to the Opera House and the House of Culture. A member of Design Hotels International, the hotel takes its name from the city centre postal code 101. Housed in the former headquarters of the Social Democratic Party, built in the 1930's in early modernist style. The exterior has now been fully restored to its original look.
The high class hotel in Reykjavik is the work of Ingibjörg Pálmadóttir, a graduate from Parsons school of Design in NY in interior design. She is also the owner of 101 hotel. This hip and funky hotel in Reykjavik Iceland has a minimalist design with a monochromatic palette of volcanic black and greys, reflecting Iceland's landscape. But coldness is avoided by the use of warm American oak flooring stretching across the building's entire expanse. The modern hotel prides itself in its art collection which holds many of the leading contemporary artists in Iceland (refer to w w w.101hotel.is ) . Furthermore since June 2004 101 gallery opened, which is a contemporary art space close to the hotel. 101 gallery plans to exhibit international contemporary art.
The 38 rooms are all light and airy, with bedrooms flowing into the bathrooms rather than being separated with a wall. Guestrooms where furnished with the minimum necessary items; a large bed, comfortable chairs, working desk and lot of empty space. They were also fitted with the latest technology such as floor heating, large screen television sets with DVD and wireless Internet access throughout. The bathrooms are open plan and all have oak floors, large walk-in showers with huge showerheads, mirror walls and, in most cases, free standing tubs. The views from the top floors over the city, its bay and Mount Esja under the midnight sun are eerie and just breathtaking.
The posh Hotel in Reykjavik has a cozy lounge with fireplace, leather banquettes and upholstered chairs, a sultry billiard room, two function rooms and a softly lit spa in the basement featuring a gym, Jacuzzi, sauna and black tiled plunge pool. The hotel's beating heart is the casual "101 Cafeteria", a narrow bar with high walls and glass ceiling that let the midnight sun flood in and looks up onto an art installation by the owner's sister. 101 Cafeteria is one of the trendiest places in town and serves a menu featuring a combination of modern Icelandic and international cuisine.
There are plenty of gourmet dining venues within walking distance from 101 hotel, such as the "Sjavarkjallarinn" seafood cellar, Reykjavik's newest restaurant located in the city's oldest cellar and serving fish and seafood in all kind of variations. Another favourite is the "Apotek Bar-Grill", housed in a former pharmacy on the city's main square. Creative contemporary cuisine and beautiful, functional design will please both eyes and palate.
